This project was inspired by Eco Church: A Rocha UK’s award scheme for churches in England and Wales, and aims to bring nature back in a concrete jungle.
About the project
In the spring of 2019, the Trust was alerted to an opportunity to place homes for swifts at Holy Trinity Church, Aldershot.
This beautiful church is found in what appears a rather uninspiring town environment but having declared itself an Eco Church, it was seeking to take many small and practical steps to help our wonderful natural world.
On seeing the grounds, the Trust team began to think about ways it could help. Annie, our wildlife gardening expert, soon began to inspire everybody with great ideas about how they could turn what looked like a concrete jungle into a thriving natural area of colour and life.
Annie came up with mood boards that set out ambitious plans to transform all views of the church.
A work party, including local corporate volunteers and the enthusiastic church team lead by Geoff Berry and Jane Newton, help with the planned work.
If you have green fingers, like helping a local community and would like to make a difference in Aldershot, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will keep you informed of opportunities to help with this great project.
