    Moor Green Lakes
    Finchampstead

One of the Trust’s wildlife specialists, Trustee Bernard Baverstock, will lead a rare opportunity to see some of our smallest British mammals.

We will be examining live catching traps to discover what small mammals are living in the undergrowth in part of Moor Green Lakes Reserve.

The event will last approximately two hours.

Accompanied children are welcome, but no dogs please.

Booking is essential to get the location details and the chance to help with setting the traps on Thursday and Friday evenings.

Numbers are limited so early booking is advised, but please book by 18 September.

    Kennels Lane
Kennels Lane, off Ively Road, Farnborough. Nearest postcode is GU14 0LL - not exact, so look for the brown signs to Southwood Woodland. The grid reference is SU844545

This will be just over 9 miles around the boundaries of the Farnborough airfield and old Pyestock site.

We’ll start from the new car park in the old Kennels Lane off Ively road in Farnborough.

We’ll start by walking across the area formerly the Southwood golf course but now to become a country park. We will enter the airfield complex at Meadow Gate before passing through the reconstructed balloon shed and onto the old ‘factory’ area before crossing over the top of the airfield with its splendid views and heading down to the canal.

We’ll walk over two miles along the towpath before entering the woodland and following the boundary of the old NGTE establishment into Southwood Woodland and back to Kennels Lane.

As in previous years we’ll pause briefly to look at wind tunnels, graves of famous army horses and strange concrete army firing and exercise structures plus who knows what – remember the juggling unicyclist from last year?

For a change there are no stiles or significant slopes on this walk and surfaces are mostly good.

We should return just after 13:30

    Booking is not necessary.

    Shepherd Meadows
    Marshall Road, GU47 0FJ. Grid ref: SU848607.

Of all the Trust’s regular specialist walks, our bat walks are always the first to fill up.

Maybe it’s the combination of the expert knowledge of BVC Partnership Manager Steve Bailey and the specialist bat detector equipment, or maybe it’s just the strange fascination these creatures of the night have for us.

You’ll need to bring a torch to find your way in the dark, wrap up warm, and expect to be exploring for about two hours.

This is a great evening for all the family.

Meet at 19.15 at Shepherd Meadows car park (off A321 Marshall Road, map ref SU 848607)

Booking is essential and numbers are limited, so please book early.
