Sandhurst Chelsea Fringe Week
Stretch your legs with the Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust’s Mary Ferriss and Peter Collins, in conjunction with Sandhurst Health Walks. Starting in Sandhurst, this gentle 9 km circular walk passes through heathland, pasture and forest and takes in Wildmoor Heath Nature Reserve’s rolling landscape of heather, gorse and pine and part of Crowthorne Wood.
BOOKING FOR THIS EVENT WILL BE, NECESSARY
Come along and join us at this popular free family event at Fleet Pond. Suitable for all ages.
Car parking is very limited. The event will be signposted from all access points around the Fleet Pond Reserve.
Access to the main car park is via the narrow, brick railway bridge off the Cove Road (A3012/3). There is a brown duck sign at the junction. Cross the bridge and turn right. The car park is 400 metres down a gravel track. There is a height restriction of 2.1m at the entrance.
The train station car park can also be used and has quick access to the Pond. However this is charged Monday-Saturday.
Swifts are in fast decline - 50% have gone in 20 years. Our drop in day will tell you all about Swifts in and around Aldershot, why they have declined and how we can help them recover. There will be talks and videos, displays of local interest to nature lovers and refreshments. A joint event by Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust and NE Hants RSPB Group. The event is free to all. Refreshments and other items may be available for sale.
We will meet at the bus stop outside the stadium and take a gentle walk of a mile or two around some of the sometimes hilly streets of Aldershot spotting and hearing swifts in this 'hotspot' for these fast declining birds. We will try to locate some nesting sites and will visit a home where the owners will welcome us to see swifts nesting in their house and their neighbour's homes. The event is free but you may make voluntary donations to the 'Saving our Amazing Swifts' project if you wish. This is a joint event by Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust and NE Hants RSPB Group.
