2009 Event reports

I n  March   A Dragonfly and Damselfly Workshop , was led by Ken Crick, our local expert, where those who came along learned how to identify dragonflies and damselflies and their larvae, including a dissection and microscope demonstration.

In  April  Colin Wilson led a walk entitled  Birds of   Moor Green Lakes , where everyone was able to see and hear some of the spring migrants and breeding birds of this local beauty spot along the river paths and from the hides.

May  saw Colin Wilson leading another walk, this time to see the  Birds of Sandhurst , featuring spring migrants and delightful birdsong from warblers and many other species around Sandhurst Memorial Park and Shepherd Meadows.    

June  was the turn of Bernard Baverstock to act as guide, under the title of  Beautiful Butterflies And Ugly Bugs.  Those who turned up   with a bug viewer or magnifying lens were amazed at the number of interesting creatures to be found in the delightful area of Aldershot Park and Tongham Pool.

In  July  Chris Bean helped everyone, especially those with binoculars, to identify a good range of Dragonflies and Damselflies  along the Basingstoke Canal near Ash Lock.   

August  found Alan Taylor leading  A Leisure Walk  for five miles along the river and canal, when all could enjoy some exercise and explore a little of the Valley.   

 In  September  –  Seeking Bats ! A repeat of last year’s successful foray in Sandhurst Memorial Park, led by Steve Bailey, provided the opportunity to see some bats and how a bat detector works. As it was in the dark, a torch was a very handy accessory!

The Trust's AGM was held in  November  and was attended by over 30 people. It was an opportunity to meet the Trustees and learn more about the Trust. There were also presentations from 4 organisations with interests very similar to our own: Cove Brook Greenway Group; Moor Green Lakes Nature Reserve; Snaky Lane Community Wildlife Group and Fleet Pond Society.

Also in  November  a planned walk to identify trees without their leaves in Winter was rained off.  We plan to repeat this event in 2010 and hope for better weather.
