Tree Survey
Important trees of the BlackwaterValley
The Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust, in conjunction with Camberley Natural History Society, has set up a survey to discover and record all the important trees growing in the Blackwater Valley.
It is hoped that this ambitious project will identify any rare, old, unusual or otherwise interesting and most loved trees within the Valley.
The initial survey will entail people walking the route of the river and recording all interesting trees that are accessible within a reasonable distance from the river. This phase could take all of the two-year time frame for the project.
Alongside this recording we will be organising, at the beginning of the second year, a public questionnaire/survey, which will give everybody who lives in the Blackwater Valley a chance to record the trees that are important to them, including those areas where trees form an important background to the views and others with stretches of old hedgerow that are vital links for wildlife.
With this second survey we hope to register trees that are away from the river, that have local significance or have a personal relevance to the people that live in the Valley.
At the conclusion of the survey we will have the information to help us protect individual or groups of trees for people to enjoy, as well as protecting the biodiversity associated with them.
It is hoped that the results can be used to produce walk leaflets to include the most interesting trees within the Blackwater Valley.
If you would like to help with the survey we would very much like to hear from you, as any help or ideas would be welcome. More details can be obtained from Bernard Baverstock tel; 01276 22574.
No special skills are required, just an appreciation of the beauty of our native trees.
The Isle of Wight Historic Trees trail is an example of what could be achieved in the Blackwater Valley.
Tree Survey Dates 2012 - Tuesdays at 10.00am unless noted otherwise
For the tree survey will walk along stretches of the Blackwater Valley path and record all the important trees that we find. We will take measurements of any that are accessible.
If you would like to join us phone Bernard Baverstock 01276 22574 to get details of the meeting place.
