The Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust (BVCT) is a registered charity working for the conservation, protection and improvement of the Blackwater Valley. It aims to enhance the environment for both people and wildlife by:
- Promoting public access to the countryside by means of a programme of events, including walks and talks
- Identifying improvement projects and raising funds to progress them
- Encouraging volunteers to assist with projects
The Blackwater Valley stretches from Farnham in Hampshire, though Surrey to Swallowfield in Berkshire. It has a varied landscape rich in wildlife. The narrow floodplain along the river contains many lakes and wet meadows and is set amidst extensive heathlands and woodlands.
Over 300,000 people live in this area and the network of public greenspaces and footpaths adds greatly to their quality of life.
BVCT raises funds from grant and other sources, such as Landfill Communities Fund, certain Lottery Funds and charity aid schemes together with funding secured from other sources such as local companies.
BVCT works closely with partners including:
The Business Plan 2008 – 2010 (click here) sets out BVCT’s objectives and partnership approach to achieving them in more detail. New Trusteees are always welcome. If you think you may be able to help us please contact the Editor or Chairman. More than anything you need to be willing to give a little time to ‘make things happen’ for the Trust. We all have busy lives but want to do what we can to improve the Valley. We need a full range of support ranging through fundraising, publicity and communication skills to project management, experience or knowledge of recreation, wildlife and land management skills and importantly, developing our membership locally. If you want to help us just let us know and we’ll tell you more with no obligation.
