This is a 6 mile circular walk. There are no stiles, but there is a spell of road walking, so dogs will need to be on a lead. There are a couple of inclines, one is particularly steep, but just over a hundred steps will get you to the top where there are benches we can use while recovering and admiring the views.
We'll walk through Beech Hill, down to Horseshoe Lake and on to one of the more scenic part of the Blackwater River. After following the river for a couple of miles, we'll explore the new ponds north of Longwater Lane. We'll then pass the Catherine of Aragon plinth and return via the woods and pond of the Finchampstead Ridges. Finally, we'll cross back under those very impressive Wellingtonias.
We did this walk last year, but this time we hope the timing is right to see the bluebell wood near the ridges at its picturesque best. There is a second bluebell area beyond Longwater Lane that we'll also walk through.
