Many countryside sites in the Valley are freely open for public access. Most rely heavily on local volunteers to look after them. Why not visit them all and get involved with your favourite.
Rowhill Nature Reserve
The largest ancient woodland in the Valley, still with active coppicing. Managed by the Rowhill Nature Reserve Society who open their field centre Sunday afternoons.
Brickfields Country Park
A small piece of peaceful green in the heart of Aldershot reclaimed from one industrial brickworks. Looked after by the Friends of Brickfields
Tice’s Meadow
Recently restored after sand and gravel extraction it is now one of Surreys best bird watching spots and lots of other wildlife too. Looked after by the very active Tice’s Meadow Bird Group.
Runfold Ridge
On the north slope of the Hogs back this gives 12ha of chalk grassland with fine views. Managed by the BVC Partnership.
Tongham Wood
A small urban fringe woodland with a friends group
Ash Green Meadows
25 Ha of open meadows and a small ancient woodland. Managed by the BVC Partnership.
Lakeside Nature Reserve
Restored from gravel workings to create a variety of habitats and now with a children’s play area.
Wellesley Wood
110ha of mature woodland, with canal-side walks and historic traces of the MOD ‘s past presence.
Snaky Lane Community Wildlife Area

Queen Elizabeth Park
A small mature woodland in the heart of Farnborough. Looked after by Friends of Queen Elizabeth Park
Southwood Country Park and Woodland
Once a MOD base and golf course now 90ha of woodland and meadows with Café and field centre on site.
With the adjacent sites of Hartland Country Park, Bramshot Farm Country Park and Fleet Pond there is a linked 300ha of public accessible countryside
Cove Brook
A valuable green corridor along the brook, cared for by Cove Brook Greenway Group
Hawley Meadows and Blackwater Park
Flood plain grasslands
Shepherd Meadows and Sandhurst Memorial Park
Wildlife rich fields and more formal recreational facilities alongside the River Blackwater
Moor Green Lakes
50ha of lakes and surrounding meadows and scrub managed for wildlife by Moor Green Lakes Group. Limited access but good views from surrounding footpaths.
